  • To meet the requirements of their customers, the Norwegian machine builder developed an innovative prototype.
  • The goal was a machine that could pack 300 pillow bags per minute into boxes while maintaining the same footprint, which relates to twice the speed of traditional machines.
  • To do so, Tronrud Engineering used a digital twin of the machine designers, allowing engineers, and programmers to work on the same project simultaneously, while constantly exchanging ideas and sharing experiences
  • This enabled the machine builder to reduce programming time, design effort and assembly time by a total of 50 percent. The commissioning of the actual machine was also shorter.
  • Because the machine and all its components were designed in completely virtual environments, it was possible to use the digital twins to simulate machine and component behavior and test the interoperability of individual components.

Resultados

  • The machine manufacturer managed to reduce the design phase by 10 percent and commissioning time by 25 percent, which lead to a significantly shorter time to market.
  • This resulted in the fasted packaging machine, helping Tronrud’s customers in the packing industry to overcome challenges: shorter time to market, greater flexibility and efficiency, and higher product quality

  • The use of analytics informs Oberweis planning and distribution strategy, including where to build the next home delivery center and where to open the next dairy story.

  • One of the key challenges in this industry is identifying malfunctions and shutting off the appropriate valves before any damage can be done. However, it is often a demanding task to identify the cause of the malfunction and isolate the valves quickly.
  • Ham-Let Group uses a cloud-based open IoT operating system (Siemens) to connects its control and instrumentation components to the cloud.
  • Previously, a valve was only able to open and close. Now, the Ham-Let IIoT valves can sense the matter that passes through them, as well as various environmental conditions such a temperature, pressure, vibration, humidity, acoustics and more.
  • Using a combination of machine learning, edge computing and the cloud, connected Industrial IoT valves provide customers with accurate and cost effective measurement and monitoring capabilities (e.g. to detect leaks, bursts or deviations from normal operations).

Resultados

  • With the switch to an as-a-service business model, Ham-Let Group is establishing a closer relationship with its customer base, enabling a deeper understanding of needs, preferences, and most importantly, real-time feedback, all of which can serve to help improve the quality of the product and service.
  • The new proposition also leads to competitive differentiation and high customer retention as customer no longer purchase just a product but a service that leads to a number of operational benefits such as improved efficiency, reduced cost, real-time data, etc.
